The Ferrous Archive is a growing collection of vintage or ephemeral photography and photographica, with an enthusiastic emphasis on early colour processes such as autochrome, Kodachrome, and Ektachrome.
No actually, I haven't been off fishing, but I have been busy working on an artsy crafty project that's caused me to develop a small, well-earned callous on my little right thumb (lots of cutting with precision instruments) and has taken far far more time than I ever thought it would. Anyway, I'll post a link to the final product once I've given it to the intended recipient (I don't want to spoil a birthday surprise). Now that I've got that done, I can get back to scanning and posting, and boy oh boy do I have some great material for you! Here's a little taste:
1966, unknown colour process, but isn't that boy in #2 your new boyfriend? He's cute, but the geezer in the lady's hat is more my speed - you gotta be pretty sure of your masculinity to wear that thing.
Just a pretty Euro scene for today. Got some sa-weet autochromes in the mail today, and some remarkable clippings from very old film stock. I'll find a way to share them with all you all. Have a good Wednesday!
The last few weeks have been tough on your old curator, whether it's time consuming obligations at home or ridiculously stressful environment at work - the precious minutes of off time I've had I've been forced to use for high-quality relief and sitting at a scanner isn't one of them. So I've neglected you... in favour of swimming and biking and forcing my brain to focus on our upcoming holiday out east, which will include stopping at Montmorency Falls. I can't stop thinking about Montmorency Falls. I don't know why. It's a place I've visited many many years ago, I barely remember it, so why is it stuck in my thoughts?
Lunch at the Chateau Frontenac.
I think part of this is mental-self healing. My wonderful friend George is my go-to source for advise and good conversation. He has an almost magical effect on my mental health. We'll be seeing him and his partner on this trip, at these places. It's the only explanation. I sure need a vacation.
